I've gotten a few DM's asking about why I use vinegar in my wash, so I just thought it would be easier to share the info here.

A cup or so of vinegar in your wash pulls the soap build up out, pulls the dirt out, removes the dinginess of your whites, and brightens all your colors up.

It was a standard in the old days of wash. The acidic nature of the vinegar strips the build up of all those nasty particles.

Try a cup right in your wash next time and see what you think! I add it right into the water with the clothes when I put my detergent in. With hot water you'll see a remarkable difference.

I use white vinegar in my laundry all the time and for the reasons you mention. Even though I use detergents and not soap (detergents are synthetics made from petroleum byproducts; soaps are made from lye, water and fats), I still like the extra boost to the cleaning it gives to laundry.

Yes Cowboy, vinegar is VERY safe for colors. It's what 'sets' the dye when you dye fabric. NO BUTTAH on the laundry!!! Vinegar good. Buttah BAD!! (Only regarding laundry, everything else is a GO with BUTTAH! tee hee!!

I use it especially with the towels. Like you said, it really helps with the build up and makes them nice and soft again!

I use Arm and Hammer Unscented and I use unscented dryer pads. I can't stand the smell of the perfumes they add to other detergents. What do you use?

My mother used to rinse her hair with vinegar, she said, "it gave her hair a nice shine."

I love using vinegar in the wash....I also make sure to wash all new clothing...especially jeans, in a vinegar wash to set the dye...then the colors won't bleed together.
