I wouldn't add baking soda by itself to the vinegar in the washing machine Elston. I have used Arm and Hammer Unscented laundry DETERGENT for almost 30 years. I've used vinegar in almost every load for 15. With no problems, just lots of clean laundry!!! lol

I learned about vinegar from this lady Oprah had on her show years ago. Her moniker was, 'The Queen of Clean'. She wrote two books that I bought and one of them is for cleaning stains from your laundry items and having the cleanest laundry possible. I can't take the credit for thinking to use vinegar originally, but I've embraced it with marvelous results.

If you've used 1/3 cup in your front loader and haven't seen an improvement, bump up your measurement until you do. (Up to one cup). It will be removed in the wash and rinse cycles.

When we wash new clothes the first time we only add white vinegar to the load, no soap or softener. It really does seem to help the colors last longer without fading.

I never thought about adding it during the regular washing.

I will now...
