White vinegar cleans the washer as well as the clothes. I use it in the rinse cycle to get rid of any buildup every once in a while.

So if we're out of white vinegar, I guess red wine vinegar wouldn't be a good substitute?

Seriously, we always have a jug of white vinegar in the house. It's the only thing DW uses to get spills/stains from the carpets. Works like a charm and keeps them looking brand new!

just add some 151 cruzan dark gold, should kill the vineger smell they definitely won't be standing up

No. You use only a cup in an entire wash load. No vinegar smell remains.
