The service is what determines which grocery store I go to. Not only do I not want to bag them, I don't want to load them either. My store has a conveyer system which sends the groceries outside where you drive up and they load it into your car for you. I don't touch my groceries until I get into my garage.
My first real job was bagging groceries and providing take out. So I do know how. All the places I shop usually have bagging help for the cashiers. I'm getting old and ornery so I would most likely just stand there looking around until someone did there job now.
I haven't bagged my own groceries since I shopped in a military commissary.
Funny story about squished bread. Back in the day, when I was a kid, we lived in a National Park, about 30 miles from town. My mom and I went to town to do the shopping. My mom was (and still is) picky about how her groceries are bagged (hmmm, wonder where I get it from). The bag boy bagged the groceries and my mom said something to him about the way he bagged the bread. He made some comment about the bread would be okay. Mom told him if it was squished she would bring it back to him. Well, the bread was squished, mom took it back and the bag boy bought her another loaf of bread. Now, I have taken tomatoes back when they were put on the bottom of the sack, but I haven't had any real problems. At the stores I go to, if the sackers are busy elsewhere the checkout clerk bags the groceries.
That's why where I shop depends on what all I need. I messed up my shoulder a few years agaon and have trouble lifting stuff. If I only need a few things I might go to Walmart ( any of you that love Walmart must have better ones than we do here in S.A.). They either don't bag it or try to put it all in one bag. When I first get to the check out I look them in the eye and say pretend this is you own food please...
Now H.E.B. does a fantastic job of bagging and carrying out if I want.
I don’t understand it? Where is everyone shopping at, I’ve had nothing but the best service from all of the cashiers in most every store I go to. They all seem to work hard and try to be helpful.
The HEB close to my home is the worst about this. They seem to be chronically short-handed. I generally do not bag my own groceries, but if I see that the poor cashier is checking and bagging, I will help. If they stand there and act like they don't need to do it, then I stand there and wait. I had one guy scan all my stuff and send it down to the bag area and hand me my receipt and say "have a nice day." lol. I just told him I needed my stuff bagged. This is not Sac n Save.
