My step-mother answered the phone one time and the lady that called just said "Ben Gay?" My stepmother said "No, not lately!"...LOL. I suppose Ben's last name could have been spelled "Gaye" but it was still one of the oddest names I've ever heard. I can only imagine the pain ointment jokes that guy gets!
My dad went to grade school with a little girl whose last name was Pless. Her parents named her Hope.
And there's a big regional grocery chain throughout Texas called HEB, after the owner's initials. His last name is Butts, and the poor sod's parents named him Harry.
And I am sure that anyone from Texas will recall Governor "Big Jim" Hogg, who named his daughter Ima. She became an avid art collector and philanthropist, possibly as a way of deflecting all the cruel jokes she must have heard growing up.
And finally, both of my children had the same English teacher in high school, a fellow named Mr. Waack. His given name was Richard, and yes, he went by the name Dick.
