I hope all is well with everyone
My son shipped out to Japan right after thanksgiving and will be over that way for 3 years, but he does come back to San Diego sometime next year in May or June for 2 months training (maybe i will get to fly out that way and see him) yesterday was his 20th birthday and i hope he had a good one
won't get to talk to him again until sunday morning (he usaully calls at around 4 in the morning)
Tis the season, so here are a couple more things I just heard about...
Donate Your Unused Airline Miles: Operation Hero Miles You can donate unused frequent flyer miles for service men and women wounded or injured in Iraq or Afghanistan or for their families to visit them in the hospital
Welcome to Cell Phones for Soldiers! For this one, you donate your old cell phones for recycling and the money is used to buy calling cards for the troops. You can even print labels for shipping right from this site.
I had to make a slight change to the one regarding frequent flyer miles.
Don't apologize, those are both great threads with a ton of information. And for what it's worth, my son called me from Kuwait today from a phone card he got free from a USO (something-sorry, don't remember exactly) so, it works!
Not sure if someone posted this organization or not because I haven't read everyone's response but Books For Soldiers is a good organization to check out.
Here is a website which helps the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan who, on their own time, are trying to help the everyday citizens in those countries. They need certain donations and this site helps them in their quest. Please take a look: Beyond Orders - Helping US soldiers rise above the call of duty for the Iraqi and Afghan people (http://beyondorders.org/home.asp - broken link)
