When I was 3-4 yrs.. Lightning & Thunder.. But my grandmother explained it to me... the wee people aka Leprechaun's bowling.. the rumbling was when the ball rolled down the alley on the thumb hole.. the thunderous crashing was the strike.. and the flash was the sparks coming off the pins... problem solved never feared lightning ever again.. Grandmothers are great
I also recall as a kid our house making some really weird noises during the night - mostly in winter. I couldn't quite identify the sounds but they were like gurgling and clunking noises, along with the odd squeak and bang. My sister and I just couldn't get to sleep at all on those nights.
But it later turned out to be the houses cooling down - we would have the central heating on for most cold days, which would obviously warm the house up. But because our central heating was pretty old, it would make a hell of a noise when it was switched off and the water pump mechanism would try to shut down. And of course because we had wooden floorboards, they too would begin to flex a little as the house cooled down.
It all makes sense now of course, but not when you're 10 years old and scared witless!

When our house made noises late in the evening, my dad said that "the house is settling down for the night."
Just about everything - I was very shy and insecure. When everyone said "oh, she's so good", I was actually scared. But dogs were scary for a long time; I'm over it now and actually own a dog. Strangely, I was never afraid of clowns, which I know is a common fear. Even after watching "It", I got over it pretty quick and wanted to go the circus! I guess I'm weird.
Mainly my Sister, when I would get up at night to use the restroom she would turn off my light and hide in the hall to scare me and it did. Other than that Haunted house on the hill and a few other movies were darn scary back then.
Vomit, ventriloquist dolls, the scene in Poltergeist where the guy pulls his face off, the dead kid in the movie Stand by Me, the Happy Birthday song, all Halloween masks, skeletons, large inanimate objects submerged in water (that actually came later in life).

That really sounds terrifying.

Is that a reference to Trilogy of Terror?
