Today's Question(s):
What are your favorite bugs:
(Choose as many as apply.)
-June bugs? I'm neutral to them
-Lady bugs? They're like bug fairies. Must be gentle handling them.
-Fireflies/Lightning bugs? Love them. Mesmerizing.
-Butterflies? Beautiful creatures, some spectacular.
-Honey bees? Allergic to bees, so no thanks. Had a childhood nightmare with them
-Other nifty bugs? I am in awe of mosquitos, ticks, and other bugs who can carry death. It's real life scary, especially when you live in a rural/country setting.
Bonus Section:
Large or small; heroic, terrifying, funny or weird, etc. - Tell us about any bug episode, -
a bugisode, if you like - anything at all about encountering bugs: Bees. When I was a kid, we had a huge willow tree in the backyard, one worthy of movies. Scary on a windy night. On a summer afternoon playing, I chased a ball down to the tree. I stepped on a wasps nest. I got chased into my porch and was stung more than a half dozen times. I was allergic to bees (mostly really bad swelling and fevers), so off to the doctor (pediatrician - I was 12) I went. Sitting in the waiting room pretty swollen and sore, wham!! I started getting stung on my legs. I tore off my pants in the waiting room with a few other waiting patients and found 5 bees on my legs, and all of them bit me. Ugh. I have an enhanced recurring nightmare of that night. The bees chase me in my house, but I slam the porch door closed on them. I heard laughing like Muttley as I run into the house as they open the door. I run into my hall closet and slam it shut. I wake up just as they break through the closet door.
Foodie Questions:
Have you had or would you try:
-Ants on a log, raisins and peanut butter on celery? PB on celery as a kid, but I really don't like celery enough to waste my time on it. PB is better on other things. I had dried crickets once at a campground - my daughter and I each bought a bag (she was 26 at the time).
-Dirt pudding, crushed cookies on chocolate pudding with gummi worms? Could not and would not as I do not like gummi worms.
-Shoofly pie, a molasses pie - not unlike pecan? Many times. So heavy and good, but a rarity in my life now.
-----> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoofly_pie
Other buggy food? Other than bugs in the mouth whenever that happens (and it's often enough), the only other bug I ever ate was in my college days. I was the guy who would drink the last of the tequila in a bottle just to get to the worm and eat it. Man, I disgust myself.
Just for fun:
Buggy phrases are everywhere:
Snug as a bug in a rug,
Knee high to a grasshopper, etc.
Tell us at least one other phrase that mentions bugs or any kind of bug: There was Muhammad Ali and his "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee". I remember the phrase "the worm has turned" back when I was younger. Don't hear it much now. I know there are others.
Good questions. Have a great day everyone (as I go to bed now at midnight).
I hope these don't give anyone deja vu. They were written before yesterday's animal questions.

This happened sometime during the late 1970s or early 1980s: A really big bee flew into my driver's side car window once while I was driving home from work when I lived on Long Island. It hit something (the visor or the steering wheel, I can't remember which) and got knocked out and fell into my lap on its back. Did I ever mention I hate surprises? Anyway, in a second's time, all I could think about was getting the unconscious or dead bee off my lap so I shook my dress (still driving) and the bee dropped to the floor. DUH! (do I get credit for just now remembering a DUH moment? ) It dawned on me, I WAS WEARING A DRESS. Do I really want a probably so-far unconscious really big bee on the floor of my car below my legs while I'm driving in a dress? So I quickly pulled over (I was on a highway but not a big one) onto the grass and ran out of my car while leaving the door open hoping that the bee would soon come to his senses and just leave. He did not so I had to assist him with his exit using some paper to scoop him up. He was twitching when I left him. It was right in the area where I once hit a swan but that's another story.

Have to think about it. It wouldn't relate to the bug connection but whether I would like the dessert.
