It occurred at work one time.. i was laughing so hard, the loud sound itself shocked me into silence...and worse, the noise was echoed and heard by everyone in that tiny room.

I was mortified!

Soooo embarrassing!

In Church. Anywhere where it's quiet and surrounded by people.

A lady farted in Yoga class today. It was more of an oops and not real noticeable.

She was embarrassed.

A female coworker, she herself prone to excessive anxiety and unneeded stress, would invariably fill the air with some unintended foul air, at much of our encounters. First, was when working at the company for just a month or two. We went to an office dinner and I rode home with she and two other coworkers. In the car, as she spoke , there was a whole lot of other air emanating from her bowels. In other words, the car , even with windows down, was stinking like a sewer. One of the other coworkers remarked she is just having stomach gas. We all arrived at the office.
Then two other occasions, same putrid gas coming from her.

Does anybody know if this is due to excessive stress or anxiety?. In any event, if you are prone to flatulence, think of others around you. As they just might begin to see you as the foul air person. Not a good thing for interpersonal relationships in and out of the office.

^ I think you are right, but I'm no expert either. People like to pretend it doesn't happen, then no one knows what to do about it!

It's not due to anxiety, although that can make it worse. It's primarily due to eating too much carbohydrate, which causes gases to build up in the lower intestine. If you have an important meeting, date or other event coming up, and positively do not want it to happen, switch to an all-protein diet 3 days before (yep, all meat, fish, eggs and no bread or cereal).

It's said that the average person expels gas 15 times a day! Furthermore, gas isn't all that comes out...if you've ever noticed tan or brown streaks on your skivvies, that's from other liquid or soft solid material being expelled. Some people just can't understand why they're not wiping thoroughly enough. They probably are, but forget about the gas!

What's also not helpful, is that as we age, we begin to lose the ability to control the gas release.
