Lessons learned...On our honeymoon we had rented a cottage at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. First night there we decided to stay in and cook our first meal. We both liked Porterhouse steaks so my new groom knelt down and lit the broiler at the bottom of the apartment sized gas range and the oven for the rolls. I opened the door to the oven to put in the rolls and backed away quickly and said, oh darn, the oven didn't stay lit. I was standing at the door at this time.
New hubby put down the paper he had been reading and opened up the oven and proceeded to light it again. Well, just as I turned around, this huge ball of flame came rushing out of the oven and knocked my helpmate backwards. To this day, husband still has little less chest hair (shirt had been unbuttoned a few buttons). Beautiful long lashes were singed, eyebrows were thinned out and little less hair on his right forearm.
During the night, the windows that we had opened earlier, began closing on their own. Early in the morning a huge woodpecker decided to become an alarm clock and pecked away on the roof right over the bedroom. Uhhhh, don't attempt to re-light an oven until the escaping gas has left the room. This was decades ago and we still remember what fun!!
