John has a black hole in his computer files that devours the pictures I want printed for my photo album. There's no hope. They're forever lost in the abyss of a disorganized mind.

I'm so thankful for the search function. iPhoto has a neat feature "last import" for photos recently imported is a God send for me.

Even those of us who are supposed to know about computers do it.

Last year I installed a server and copied all the documents, pictures, music, data files, etc from our laptops and desktops to it. I knew there were going to be doubles, triples, etc to be sorted.

It has taken me since February to get it mostly organized and that included some weeks when I did little else. Our music files alone are comprised of 39,877 files in 5,314 folders taking up 159GB. Before pruning the files used up 216GB so I got rid of a lot in the process.

I'm still not done. Over the winter I expect I'll have time to attack it again. I've not gone through the pictures since my initial pass earlier this year which was done so I could fit them all on a 64GB usb drive. Documents are a nightmare, but I'll have to go through them all.

On the plus side it is all backed up to external drives connected to the server and online.

An excellent peeve, Jezer.

Great peeve, Jezer. Most of the files on my PC are neatly filed, but I'm not at all good about filing away my photos in a manner which makes them easy to find after some time has passed. Almost all of my photos are in folders just labeled with the date I uploaded them to the PC. Just this morning, I uploaded a bunch of pix from my vacation, and at least this time I remembered to sort them and file them in appropriately named folders. Most of the time, though, that's not the case.

Jezer, thank you for the pictures. What a sight. I would love your friend's job. Are the terms guide and docent used interchangeably in England and Europe?

The word docent doesn't actually exist over here as far as I am aware.
