Good morning peevers.

I was getting my glad rags on to go to work and noticed that my lovely new shoes have some chewing gum stuck to one of the heels.

Going back a few years I used to notice these dark stains on the pavement (what you call a sidewalk- it is confusing!). I didn't realise that they were ingrained pieces of chewing gum!

So my dear peevers, today's peeve is;

Discarded chewing gum.

Good peeve Jezer! I hate discarded chewing gum. The least people can do is save the wrapper and put it in it. Then toss it in a trash receptacle. I got some on the bottom of my shoe in a parking lot a while back. What a mess.

Good peeve indeed! Anything littered in the street drives me nuts. I don't understand why people are so dirty!

I just don't understand when there are litter bins everywhere in my town centre, people still drop litter. It is very annoying. I bought my two sons up to always put litter in the bin. I watch them even now in their 30s. They use the bin. If you teach children this simple lesson it sticks. Talking of sticking, chewing gum discarded in the street causes many problems.

Morning Jezer! How goes the battle with all that rain happening across the pond? Has it stopped yet?? We are still literally roasting here in the states..been a super hot summer and not one good for "discarded chewing gum" on the hot pavement. Gum does not turn "petrified" on hot pavement so it is in a constant state of gooiness which enables it to stick all over the place. I have heard if you take an ice cube and rub it where the gum is stuck, it will come off your shoe easily. Worse case scenario with gum is when it gets stuck in your hair! OMG...what a chore to remove it can be. I believe if you take alcohol and rub it on your hair where the gum is, it will eventually come loose.
My peeve for today is along the same lines. On the 4th of July, we had fireworks here in our city. We watch them from our yard sitting in lawn chairs as the display is quite close. The next day my husband and I decide to take a ride to go for Dunkin Donuts coffee (Yum). As we turned on our side street...someone who had watched the fireworks the night before had tossed ALL their McDonalds supper trash in the road..I mean all of it. It was disgusting. Our neighbor behind us, whose house it was in front of, is 92 years old and NOT about to go out there with her walker and pick the trash up. We stopped our car and cleaned it all up. What is WRONG with people??

I hate litter too. I was just "telling" Jezer that over the 4th of July holiday, someone dumped all their McDonald's trash in the road on the side of our house and in front of our neighbor's house. Our neighbor is 92 years old! Although they had no way of knowing she is elderly, just the fact that they did this irked me and I sent an email to our city manager. This trash thing happens every time our city has a fest and allows parking on our side streets so people can walk to our local park..it is unreal what we find on our property and in the roads..everything from a basketball in the pasture across the street to McDonalds crap everywhere. Not good!

NC is a big state for littering, every time I pull in my driveway I see somebody's lunch!! When I first moved here and went to the store with my Mom, I was asking her what all those brown spots were that were all over the parking lot. Ackck!She told me it was chewing tobacco that people spit out!! Really? No I wasn't a child either, being from California, I had never seen such disgusting stuff!!

I can't stand people who litter and really don't understand why they do it. So many beautiful places that people just mess up throwing their trash around.

I'm a total gum addict. I keep the wrapper in my pocket and put the gum in the wrapper carefully and then the wrapped gum in my pocket if there is no trashcan around.
