It's turned mild now so no excuse for not getting up in the loft of FIL's house to remove the rest of what's up there.
Last time one of the things I removed was a large box of cine film. Now, without going to a specialist, how are we going to be able to see this, as I've not found a cine projector?
This is the kind of situation we get as the format of recording changes at an ever increasing pace. Remember when CDs came in? They're going out now.
There were also hundreds of vinyl LP records in the roof, though we have a special record deck that transfers that recording to the computer.
In the house are hundreds of CDs, cassette tapes, DVD recordings and goodness knows what else.
You might be interested to know that his three daughters are all very musical with one daughter and her husband playing in a well known orchestra, so there are many recordings of them.
Anyway, by way of a long preamble, this brings me to today's peeve;
Dilemma for sure. I've invested heavily in VHS movies only to have DVD's take over. The quality of VHS recordings do not warrant converting to DVD's. So I'm tossing about 300 or so VHS movies. It's a shame but what you gonna do?
I have kept all of my old tapes. I have a DVD recorder, a VHS recorder, and a cassette recorder which all 3 are hooked up to my surround sound system where as I can play whichever one I want to. Eventually the older tapes will be worth something as many of the old 45's and 33 1/3 LPs are today.
Oh yes I also have a separate turntable machine to play the 45's and 33 1/3 records that we have stored away.
Just bought a turntable to convert old LP's into digital format which can be stored on my computer.
Old LPs are worth their weight in GOLD! I actually forgot about and missed hearing that snap, crackle, pop of an old vinyl! Licorice pizza. The hoarders say hold on to the old stuff!
I gave away a bazillion LP's and cassettes. I still have two VCR's ..but they're crap these days. Three DVD players and of course the computers with DVD/CD capabilities. My high dollar surround sound roasted after being left on supposedly standby for years. I am however still using a 32" CRT tv which will be replaced by a flat screen of larger size some day.
We have loads of cine films Jezer! Judy's first wedding is one. There is another of my first
wife and I in 1974. We have a projector, but haven't looked at the films in years. Keep
saying we'll get them transferred, but never get round to it. I have a record player, with
a cassette player built in the unit. You can sometimes get a projector at car boot sales very
cheaply. That way, you can watch the films, and decide which ones are worth getting
modernised. Trouble is with these very old films, is when you watch them like we did Judy's
wedding is, as people walk into view, you get "he's dead, she'd dead, he's dead" etc!!!
I happen to prefer the old dtuff and still use the turntable, cassette players and vcr. If I could find n old analog receiver with the knob dial Id be using that too. Heck ya!

I've got loads of LPs and 45s!! I must have every Barbra Streisand LP from her first, till
the late 70s. Same with Bette Midler. The 45s are all from the 60s and 70s. The Beatles
and such. I have cassettes of my children when they were very young, saying nursery
rhymes, and just chatting. I got my first video camera in about 1987, so from that time
onwards, is the recording mode I used. It all needs sorting out really, and bringing up to
date. I have a short cine film of my father and I in about 1975, that, I really need to do
something with to preserve. Same with the one of my first wife and I from 1974. When
Judy saw it, she was astonished, as I was 38 when I met her, and only 21 on the film.
