I don't have a truck alarm but that is excellent advice for those who do.
Out here in the country we rely on a critter alarm system. It's pretty accurate too. They howl for coyotes, woof at bunnies and growl at strangers. At least I know what to expect when I walk out the door!

We have a driveway alert but the birds trigger it all the time
My mom taught me to always sleep with my keys and purse next to the bed....just in case.
I realize she grew up in Germany during a war, but I guess it is sound advice any place or
circumstance.
Never thought about the car alarm. Think I'll set mine off next time my 19 year old son is out there with his friends playing music too loud.
