I'll just add that people here in the desert (kids included) walk and bike to get to work and school when it's up over 110 degrees. You suck it up and do what you have to do.

Can you save up a few hundred dollars for an old used car? I often see 15-20-year-old cars advertised for under $500 in our local paper. A few years ago, my husband sold his 1991 Toyota for $200. It only needed one repair.

An older car is more likely to need repairs, but since you live so close to work if you only drive it there it should be OK until you can save up for something better. Just have a mechanic check out any used care you might want to purchase so you know how much money you might need to put into it.

Your other option would be to borrow your mom's car and agree to help out with gas and insurance costs.

Is this the part where I get to say "when i was your age, I was living in my own apartment, working full time and attending college and taking the bus when I didn't have a car." Sheesh. Half a mile? Are you kidding? Walk. Bike. Scooter. Leave your mom alone. Clearly, she's doing enough.

I cannot believe that anyone who has to go ONLY 1/2 mile to get to work needs to get a ride to get there....

And, I can't believe it takes an hour to walk half a mile! I'm 43 years old, and I frequently walk the 4 mile hike trail by my house. It takes me an hour, so it should take a 20 year old less than 15 minutes to walk half a mile.

If your friend's driving is scaring you then you need to stop complaining and take care of yourself. It shouldn't take more then 10-15 minutes to walk a half mile and probably only 5 minutes by bike.

Except the near death driving she does.

She's very uh, ditzy.
Like missing the road out of my neighborhood, whipping around in the middle of the road no signal, nearly having a HUGE truck completely eat the back end of her TINY little mercedes benz type of ditzy.

Granted its only like half a mile maybe 3/4 of a mile from my house to work.

Do I keep riding with her or beg my mom to let me live another day and her just take me into work? She hates the fact of taking me since I can get a ride in with my friend on the days we work the same shift.

If I could be the one to drive I would in a heartbeat.
Why is this in the parenting forum?

I'm glad I didn't walk.
She drove me home as well.

There is a gas station in the same lot as work.
We stopped to get gas and got idk maybe 100ft and then it rained hard enough there was NO visibility and 2ft of RUSHING water in about 10 minutes.

That's not fair.

And I would kind of have to leave now instead of at 11:45-11:50 to get to work and its 11 now.
What do you mean that's not fair. She's the one with the car and she is doing YOU a favour. I agree walk to work or ride a bike or take a bus. Also what in the heck does this post have to do with parenting????
