Default Oviedo & Hagerty High

Oviedo and Hagerty are relatively the same and I'll tell you why. Hagerty high was opened in response to the explosive growth that Oviedo has experienced in the last 10 years. The school was staffed by then current Oviedo High teachers. While Oviedo High has a long standing reputation for excellence, Hagerty is an "A" school as well. It just hasn't been open long enough to have the same reputation. I know lots of parents, including those in my own subdivision, whose children have been re-zoned to Hagerty and everyone seems happy with it.

I guess the only difference to you would be the part of Oviedo that you prefer to live. Whether it be the newer part or the area closest to the Tuscawill area of Winter Springs.

I am a mom of 3 and have lived in the Oviedo/ Winter Springs area for several years, so if you have any other questions, I would be more than happy to answer them.

thanks momandmore, which area do you think is the nicer? I'm coming down from Long Island NY to get a rental ( until our house sells ) and not really sure about the nicer areas. Like near shopping, places for kids to have fun. There also seems to have lots of subdivisions which are nice? Thanks

I live in the Sanctuary which is the newer part of Oviedo, which is further from shopping then the older parts, however, it's still only 10-15 minutes. There is also Live Oak Reserve which is right across the street. Both subdivisions are zoned for Hagerty and are 2 of the largest subdivisions in Oviedo. Also, FYI, there tons of people from Long Island who live in Oviedo. I am originally from Brooklyn, raised in Queens and went to school and worked in Garden City. Oviedo reminds you of areas in Long Island which is why it has alot of appeal to New Yorkers. All of Oviedo is family friendly and kid-centered so no matter where you choose that's not an issue.

Momandmore- You are very helpful and don't sound as negative as some others.
I am also relocating there with my family. I have a 7th grader and a 4th grader for next year. I am concerned with the public schools, but the private schools there are a lot more than we pay in NC. How are the Elementary and Middle schools in Ovieda?
I am also bringing my mom down with us and would love for her to be close to me and yet be in an active nice 55+ community. any neighborhood suggestions, and any 55+ suggestions would be helpful. Someone in another post mentioned Poinsietta (I think that is the name). They mentioned with all the foreclosers the crime rate is horrible. Is this true in all developements. Aslo we hate a lot of rules, like no boat in the drive way EVER....Thanks

Thank you for your kind words....I just try to be helpful. The public schools in Oviedo are fantastic from what I know. My daughter goes to Master's because I want a Christian education, but if for any reason we had to put her in public school, I would have no problem with any of the schools. Alot of my friends' kids are in the neighborhood schools and they love it. I have yet to hear something negative aside from the everyday complaints that anyone would have with any school just because no place is perfect. Also, as far as your mom is concerned, you don't necessarily have to live in an over 55 community. Oviedo and Winter Springs (Tuscawilla area) both have areas where your mom can have the same feel and still be close to you. I also friends in the same situation.

What locations would you like community info on? Oviedo (zoned for hagerty), Oviedo (zoned for Oviedo High) or Tuscawilla?

momandmore, sorry it has taken me so long to get back with you. I don't know much about the area, but we are primarily interested in an area with the best middle and high schools. Thanks for your help

I've been watching this thread since we'll be moving to Oviedo from South Florida. I'm curious to have as much info as i can about Oviedo. Know anything about Little Creek subdivision at all, off of Lockwood? Or Carillon, since that's where my 4th grader will be going?

Thanks!
