I also have been lurking...I posted on another Orlando thread, but will post the same here. I have been looking at a mobile home in a community near UCF off of Colonial and 417. I dont have the name at my fingertips. Alafaya Community.....
Anyone aware of that area, and how is it?

The best way to compare the schools is to go to the Florida Department of Education's web site. You can compate standardized test results of any school's you wish.

Default Thinking of relocating to Oviedo

Hi Everyone...looking for any information you think is relevant. My husband and I are seriously considering relocating from NJ to Oviedo. I have done a little research and know that the schools are excellent. We would probably buy within the next year and stay up here until my middle daughter is out of high school (another three years). Our youngest will be in 5th grade by then. Any areas to stay away from? Any middle school particularly better? High school? Any info. you can think of would be so helpful!

Pretty much all of oveido is nice so you dont need to worry about areas to stay away from, except just east of down town oveido, that area isnt very appealing to me. For middle schools, they have Jackson Heights Middle and Lawton Chiels Middle. And i would say Lawton Chiels is a little better, its newer and nicer looking. Jackson Heights is a little run down. Both high schools are equally good.

Both ranked top high schools by newsweek and greatschools.org. Not sure just because you go to one makes it the better choice. If nothing else it shows the close mindedness of the students. If you know nothing about one of the schools, you shouldnt compare it.

I have friends and family who graduated and still go to both Hagerty and Oviedo. Most of the kids at hagerty like hagerty better and vise versa. Go to the Oviedo vs Hagerty football game and you will see what I mean. They are both great schools.

We met with the staff and we LOVE Hagerty, I cried at how nice everyone was and so welcoming...so excited to move to Oviedo. I suggest that you make an appointment to meet with the administration of both schools and then make a decision.

We visited both high schools (Hagerty an Oviedo) last week. My daughter LOVE Oviedo, very friendly staff. Hagerty is a new school located in very nice neighboorhood but we didn't like the way the school offer the academic program.
