My husband's job is relocating him to the Disney area. We are looking to rent a house. At first I thought we would rent in kissimmee, Poinciana area but after reading these threads about gangs and crime I decided to look elsewhere. What are your thoughts on St. Cloud and Davenport? Are they safe? Are they family oriented areas? I was looking into elementary schools, it seemed St. Cloud had better rated schools than Davenport. But Davenport had several charter schools that rated fairly well, are those hard to get into? Thanks.

I'd take Davenport over St. Coud or Ponciana any day.

St cloud is becoming much like Kissimmee and the traffic in and out of st cloud is a night mare.. I think Davenport would be way better in terms of travel and family firendly...there are TONS of rentals in Davenport

Thank you very much for your input. I did notice a lot of rentals very reasonably priced in Davenport. I just wanted to make sure they were in a nice area. The zipcode to the house I like is 33897. I also saw some other zipcodes in Davenport. Are there any zipcodes to avoid or is the whole town ok. Thank you.

I have owned a home in Davenport, FL since 2003 and love where I live. It is in the actual "City of Davenport". I have never felt safer anywhere else. We have the feel of a small town just a few short miles outside of the big city. It use to be very rural however over the last few years it has been growing. Just a few minutes away is Posner Park, a unique plaza that will include a mix of national and regional retailers (Target, BestBuy, Michael's, etc), entertainment, cultural venues, fine and casual dining and much more. There is a new elementary school "Horizons Elementary" being built behind the new Publix shopping center just south of Interstate 4 off of Highway 27, slated to open in August 2008. Just north of Interstate 4 there is a new mall being built. It is an up and coming area and I can't wait to be a part of it all.

Davenport is in the "Heart of Florida". Right smack in the middle of the state and the same distance to east and west coast beaches. Close to Interstate 4 and Tollroads 417 and 429. It is a great place to LIVE!

Default love it

Just moved 1 month ago. Beautiful house in Davenport. Traffic hasn't been bad yet. Hubby works in Celebration and is there via I4 in 12 minutes. We see hot air balloons from our pool every morning.Neighborhood is half/half vacation homes/owners. Everybody is extremely friendly, always waving and speaking. Even the vacationers. School is overcrowded which is why they are building the new one.
I really have had no complaints yet.

wow... I have been struggling to find a place that is affordable and has decent reviews, and when I noticed 3bedroom homes renting around 900-1000, I decided to research Davenport, especially since that's where the vacation rental I have for a week is.

Thanks for this post, i think I probably will rent there since it sounds exactly like what I want. Unless i get there and hate it!

Funny to see all the high praises for Davenport when I saw the huge ratio of sex offenders living there. TMH, you may want to check out my earlier thread where I asked why there were so many sex offenders there as opposed to all the other areas around Orlando. Something to think about when you have kids!
