Really the main reasons for leaning towards Eugene are more job opportunities (I hope) and my fiancee's affection for cities. (He grew up in Houston and lived in Sacramento.) Plus, I find those "anachronistic hippie die-hards" kind of cute. Eugene didn't appear to be too congested when we visited but maybe we didn't see the problem areas.

On the negative side for Eugene, I've never lived in a city only suburbs of them. I'm also mildly asthmatic.

Corvallis is lovely, but how far will I need to travel to find work? With all the highly-qualified competition, I'm not sure I could get hired.

Thanks for your input, Steve. I find your posts to be always informative and reasonable.
I think corvallis has lower unemployment than eugene but i could be wrong? Also eugene is more suburb than city for the most part. Think suburbs with lots of "free range" meth tweakers roaming around and empowered by city government. Highly advise hanging around kesey square for an hour before you make your decision.

Steve and dangerous dave sum it up perfectly above.

There are about 18 miles of paved bike paths in Corvallis.
The one going along the Marys River to downtown is one I use a lot.
An extension of that trail runs through Starker Arts Park out to Philomath.
There is a nice paved path by the fair grounds that will take you the Bald Hill mt bike trails.
There is lots of good mt biking out in McDonald Forest, a research forest owned by OSU, which is about 5 miles from town.
The local bike shops have trail maps for sale.
Most streets in town have marked bike lanes.
We are rated gold for cycling infrastructure by the League of American Bicyclists.
We have the Corvallis Bicycle Collective which repairs and sells used bikes and the Mid Valley Bicycle Club puts on weekly road rides of various lengths plus their annual 9 day Loop Tour, Covered Bridges Ride and Crater Lake Ride.
We moved here for the great cycling opportunities and have not been disappointed.

Or at least more often winning, if that means better, and they are very well dressed.

Corvallis has a small town feel and a lot of folks prefer to live in a city and Eugene has that city feel to it.
Eugene has a new CBOC VA Clinic. Friday, Sept 30, i had cataract surgery done on my left eye there. It was an amazing experience.
