We are a family with a toddler moving from Boulder City, Nevada (just outside Las Vegas) to Orange County for a great new job in Anaheim in November 2012. The higher salary will make up for the Cost of Living increase, but we are still not used to the vast number of options AND high rental prices in California. We need a 3 bedroom house within about 30 minutes of Anaheim. We are making ourselves crazy researching areas, and really need to know where normal, average families can affordably live and still be safe. Where would you live if you were in our shoes? Is there anything good in the $2,000 per month range? We realize that Irvine and Huntington Beach always make the "best of" lists, and they look great, BUT, can we afford it? Is it within 30 minutes? Thanks!

Use the search feature at the top of this forum and look at posts regarding Orange, Yorba Linda, Placentia and Brea. All reasonably close to Anaheim and have decent family neighborhoods.

If you're working in Anaheim, I'd start my search in Brea and Fullerton. Both are relatively safe areas and within 30 mins of Anaheim. (You might not even have to get on the fwy) I know 2br apts in VERY safe areas are around $1500...not sure on a 3br house.

Don't rule out Anaheim entirely. There are neighborhoods throughout this city that would definitely fit your bill.

Around what intersection in Anaheim will you be working?

You should definitely be able to find something.

Fullerton, Brea, La Habra, Whittier, and La Mirada; look in these areas.

Corona has quite a few good neighborhoods and it's close to Anaheim and very close to Anaheim Hills. It's cheaper than Anaheim but still has a good quality of life.

There are definitely some great homes available in the area for under $2000 a month. Areas I'd suggest are Anaheim Hills and Brea. Irvine is nice, but I'm not sure if you'll find an adequate 3 bedroom there for under $2k.

I'm an agent in the area, so please get in touch if you'd like more info. I'd be happy to show you around.
