We are considering relocating to the Omaha area. We have seen that Council Bluffs is very close. Can anyone compare the differences? Which is better? Can you get in state tuition for UNO? Which has better grade schools? Which has the better cost of living? Are house prices comparable? How well do the jobs pay in the area? Thanks in advance!

Omaha has better schools and is much nicer than Council Bluffs, Most of the Jobs are in Omaha, so most of the people in Council Bluffs commute here.

Omaha is a city and Council Bluffs is really a large suburb of Omaha. But not a newer style suburb, older and cheaper housing stock over all.

Generally, it is also a little poorer than Omaha in terms of socio-economics.

I believe property taxes are much lower than Omaha and I believe that you can qualify for UNO in-state tuition by living there.

My family lives in Omaha, but we have extended family living in Council Bluffs. In my opinion, there is absolutely no comparison. Omaha has it all over Council Bluffs.

As someone who lived in both cities, I'll tell you that both are fine places to live for the most part.

Omaha is a great city with lots of activities, very solid schools, good economy and pretty affordable cost of living. The atmosphere is great.

Council Bluffs has more of the small/town suburban feel and is pretty blue collar. The housing is cheaper but there is not nearly as much to do as there is in Omaha, although a short commute across the river is no big deal.

Personally I would pick Omaha because I'm a 22 year old single guy and like the city, but I wouldn't hesitate to live in CB either.

I guess the best way to put it is that it would be like trying to pick an SUV or a sports car. They both have their purpose and the one you pick will be based on your personal needs and ideals.

No, you can't get in-state tuition to UNO if you live in Council Tucky. It's Iowa. I think about the closest thing they've got is a small community college - Iowa Western.

And the schools are better in Omaha. Actually, the suburb communities of Omaha such as Papillion, LaVista, Millard, and Bellevue are even better than Omaha.

I would ask the college about the tution. Not only about living in Council Bluffs and getting in-state tuition but I also believe that you are not considered a resident until you have lived here for 6 months to a year. So they would charge you out-state tution anyway.

I lived in Omaha for ten years and CB for ten years. My oldest children went to west Omaha schools and my youngest to Iowa schools. Youngest got a much better education by far.Plus I'd rather live in "Council-tucky" than the homicide capital of the midwest!!!!!
