The Oklahoma football program is a college football team that represents the University of Oklahoma (variously "Oklahoma" or "OU"). The Oklahoma Sooners are a perennial powerhouse. As of 2008, ESPN ranked Oklahoma as the most prestigious program since 1936. The team is currently a member of the Big 12 Conference, which is a Division I Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The program began in 1895 and is the most successful program of the modern era (post World War II) with 524 wins and a winning percentage of .761 since 1945. The program has seven national championships, 42 conference championships, 150 All-Americans (72 consensus), and five Heisman Trophy winners. In addition, the school has had five coaches and 17 players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and holds the record for the longest winning streak in Division I-FBS history with 47 straight victories. They became the eighth NCAA FBS team to win 800 games when they defeated Utah State on Sept. 4th, 2010. The team is currently coached by Bob Stoops and home games are played at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.
Oklahoma Sooners football - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

tongue in cheek.........

The way some talked about Oklahoma the past week, you'd have thought the Sooners lost to an FCS team. But the Sooners' inept defensive backs made plays on Christian Ponder all day, and let the Heisman candidate torch them for 113 yards on 11-of-28 passing with a pair of interceptions. Meanwhile, the overrated, passive Landry Jones barely managed to top 320 yards in the first half and threw just three touchdown passes before halftime. Ten of his 40 passes were also incomplete, a side effect of his terrible decision making. Oklahoma's reign as one of the top teams in the Big 12 is clearly nearing its end.

A lot of people in Oklahoma think Bob Stoops is God and when they die, their soul goes to Norman.

Oklahomans and "Okies" obsession with something so insignificant as football.....nothing more than a waste of time.

You all should be ashamed of yourselves putting athletics ahead of science and knowledge.

I find it an insult, a true insult.

Every time I see an "athlete" interviewed on the six o clock news I nearly throw up!

Makes this long time native want to move......sorry.

Whoa! GK! You rock! Hate the game, not the players!

Sports is a part of life in this world, and sadly some make 100 million a year playing ball. Such is life. You want a puke bag? I have to run and get some whenever Stoops talks.

I don't think it's an obsession, GK, more like a religion!

GP, Is it true OU games are all pay-per-view this year?

I do like the sooner program, I just don't care for the coach.

We all know Kansas State has the best coach in the Big XII.

You mean the statistical analysis performed prior to betting on a game has nothing to do with science or math?

Last one picked for the team when you were a kid, eh?

Although peace loving Muslims can build mosques, and Jesus loving Christians can burn korans, failing to support OU football will get you run out of town on a rail.............unless you have a prominent display of OSU stickers around and you become the cute little sister of the real football supporters..........

No, Saturdays game was on ABC......but I bet a bunch of them are......no big deal, what's $40.00 for some good entertainment? But then you don't have to spend that kind of money.......just go to the local place of worship, uh, make that a "sports bar", buy a beer and fellowship with your fellow devotees.

Is there any talk of Oklahoma getting a NFL franchise? Is OU and Oklahoma State just too big or Dallas too near for that possibility?

Does anyone know how much money the football program has brought to OU? I know it has to be in the millions and millions. Most of the money it put back into the general fund, science and knowledge benefit from the football program. How many other programs at OU bring in any money at all?

One thing I have never understood is why OSU fans hate OU so much. Seems to me if OSU fans could be as proud of OSU rather than focus on hatting OU then they would be a better class of fans.

OU fans are proud of OU. You rarely hear OU fans cheering when OSU gets beat, but when OU gets beat OSU fans are cheering as if OSU just won a game. OSU fans look at a OU lose as an OSU win.

I'm an OU fan but I am for OSU when they are not playing OU. I have state pride.
