REALLY?

We still have 34,000 daily new cases in the U.S. and 600 daily deaths. We have 35,000 Americans hospitalized with COVID infections.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...vid-cases.html

Only 120 million Americans are fully vaccinated, and another 30 million have received one shot. Anti-vaxers represent such a sizable percentage of Americans that we are unlikely to reach herd immunity.

https://www.google.com/search?q=U.S....4dUDCA4&uact=5

Children under 12 are not yet eligible for vaccination, and are more vulnerable to the COVID variants.

We have no knowledge if vaccinated individuals who test positive for COVID-19 are vulnerable to acquiring long-term health deficiencies. We have no idea if or when a vaccine-resistant variant will emerge, especially as globally large numbers of infected individuals remain a breeding ground for new variants. Yet, unlike Australia, we are permitting foreign travel.

Tens of millions of Americans fearing infection understandably are reluctant to fully re-engage in our economy.

We can't pay for epidemic mitigation efforts, so the Fed is creating money and purchasing and monetizing federal debt at unprecedented rates. This has disastrous implications for our economic future. As school children learn, the piper always will be paid.

Rather than develop robust public health policies to suppress the COVID epidemic completely as in Australia and other nations, our national policy clearly is a "live with COVID" policy as our leaders champion re-opening despite ongoing infections and deaths and the risks inherent in re-openng absent effective national public health measures such as contact tracing and mandatory quarantines. Most Americans don't even know that a less expensive and safer "no COVID" policy is available and viable.

Even in Australia, where one COVID infection is unacceptable, stringent public health measures remain in effect to prevent and isolate ANY infections. I doubt if even Australians would say the epidemic is over while it rages around their protected bubble in other nations such as the U.S. or India. Yet unlike America, Australian society functions without masks and social distancing (except to suppress any outbreak) COMPLETELY SAFE from the COVID virus.

Our vaccine barrier is porous given vaccine hesitancy and the unwillingness of our governments to enforce (or even allow as in Florida) vaccine passports or even school bans for unvaccinated children. We remain vulnerable to any variant for which existing vaccinations prove much less effective.

We aren't even emphasizing the development of therapeutic drugs to treat COVID infections, nor to treat those dealing with disabling long-haul COVID consequences. This reality was even worth a few minutes in Biden's State of the Union address.

Anybody who refers to the CDC as the "liberals' love child" IMO is a mind-addled, "Big Lie" compromised fool. Sadly, the CDC over the past year has been politically compromised and rendered much less effective due to such political inanity. I don't know of a single American politician who champions a "no COVID" policy which the CDC is perfectly capable of implementing if given the marching orders and support of Congress and the administration.

When I was a child in the 1950s, governments throughout the U.S. enforced a "no TB" policy. In Ohio, school children were given TB tests annually, and annual chest X-rays were mandatory for teachers, especially as medical experts and politicians knew that the antibiotics developed during WWII were effective at treating TB, like polio, a scourge of humanity.

Thanks to Trump and his anti-science followers, the belief in applied scientific expertise has plummeted to lows likely unprecedented in post-19th century America. The consequences sicken me, as due the purveyors of this anti-scientific mantra.

According to Channel 19 Cleveland, Governor Dewine lifted the mask requirement for those of us who are fully vaccinated, effective Friday May 14:

I understand that you're a card-carrying member of the dumbed-down America cult, who are some combo of gullible victims of propagandized "Big Lie" deceit, or are purveyors of it.

Unfortunately, the perfidious, sometimes farcical leaders of this cult have needlessly allowed one million Americans to die in an epidemic that other nations have suppressed using science-based policies. We have wasted trillions trying economically to survive this epidemic, and yet millions of survivors likely have acquired long-term health deficiencies that will burden our economy and health care system. Other millions have suffered economically and socially damaging educational shortfalls. Tens of millions have suffered or are facing food and housing deficiencies. And we likely still face an economic calamity in the near future. These cult leaders have politically weaponized opposition to effective public health measures, making America vulnerable to a deadly COVID variant, let alone an even more deadly virus in the future. None of this phases you and your fellow dummies one bit.

Pathetic. And portending of an extremely dismal outlook for this nation.
Check your facts, 585,000 Deaths from Covid19 in the USA, not "One Million" as you state.
What other nation has not been touched by Covid-19? In fact, the USA has done tremendous work on Vaccine distribution and equity compared to our Peers in Europe, Asia, even Canada.

Stop being a bully.

Do you bring Politics into every discussion on this board?? Here you go again with everyone who disagrees with your opinion being "Anti-Science" or "Trumpers". I am neither of those, but your thoughts are clouded by your biases and stereotypes.

Governor DeWine has been very sensible throughout the Pandemic in ensuring the safety of residents is in mind as well as the economy. Ohio has done as good or better than many States.

A group called IHME came out with a "study" this past week claiming the actual number of Covid deaths in the U.S. was 900K, which WRNative probably just rounded up to 1 million because he believes in lying to people as long as it's for the purposes of his religion (scare and guilt people into supporting Zero-Covid measures). IHME is funded by Gates and their projections have repeatedly been way off; I would go with the numbers agreed upon by other entities, which are close to the number you give.

We won't adopt Zero-Covid in this country any sooner than soccer will supplant football as the #1 sport. WRNative won't accept that and you see how angry it makes him; that's why I asked him to chill out, because it can't be good for his health the way he flies off the handle at anyone who doesn't share his fundamentalist views.

I have a question or two. If vaccines, masks and treating your friends and neighbors like they have the plague is so important to stop the pandemic in America. Why in the **** did we open up the borders the past three months and Let in a **** ton of illegal aliens? Does the government really care? And if they did why do they still sell tobacco and alcohol which is a much worse health issue and causes way more deaths and family issues.

No point in trying to argue. Probably just better to not engage. WR has been obsessed with covid restrictions for over a year now and would keep the masks on indefinitely if he/she could. Fortunately, WR is not the Governor.
