You went back and pulled a thread that is almost 2.5 years old so that you could state this again? Ok. So KGES is #7 out of 7 schools in McLean.

I am not excessively advertising my own blog. I could post all that same data here. I was simply trying to avoid having to post duplicate entries that are entirely on subject and entirely supported by FCPS data to prove my points. You are actually voilating the purpose of this community site. I will start to post the research here if that's how you want it played.

The 2nd spreadsheet compares 42 separate pieces of data consisting of SOL test results from 3rd - 6th grade across all subjects for the past three years at the seven McLean elementary schools. You will notice that KGES finishes in last place 15 times (or 36% of the time). Eighty percent of those last place finishes occur in the last two years. The 1st spreadsheet ranks the schools by last place finishes.

Here's the tranfer OUT rates for the McLean Elementary Schools. Kent Gardens has 10 more than the next highest school.

Spinghill 6
Churchill 6
Chesterbrook 7
Franklin Sherman 13
Haycock 14
Great Falls 16
Kent Gardens 26

A Washington Post Article ranks Northern Virginia elementary schools based on percentages of students with Pass-Advance scores in reading and math. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/metro/education/vafull/va.htmlThe data reviews Standards of Learning tests in 2003 and 2008. In an effort to see how well KGES is progressing compared to other McLean elementary schools, the Mclean schools were extracted into a table of just those schools. The first table shows the rankings of McLean schools based on their test scores in 2008. KGES is comfortably in last place.
The next table below ranks these schools by their test score improvement from 2003 to 2008. KGES again ranks last. The KGES improvement is only about 1/3 of that of Spring Hill and about half of Franklin Sherman and Great Falls.
The last table ranks these schools by their change in ranking. Again, KGES is by far the worst. It dropped from a ranking of 37th in 2003 all the way to 84th 2008. Churchill Road, Haycock, Spring Hill, and Great Falls are all in the top 13 schools in Northern Virginia – truly impressive for McLean schools. KGES’s ranking of 84th is truly embarrassing.
This spreadsheet compares 75 separate pieces of data for SOL tests given during the seven year period from the time when SOLs first started being given until 2007. During this time, KGES scored in the bottom two spots 47% of the time. KGES scored in the top two spots only 8% of the time. Another spreadsheet on this blog shows how the other McLean schools have improved their overall performance over the years. Unfortunately, KGES has not shown any marked or lasting improvement in any category.

Default Perspective in schools

What is the purpose of resuscitating several older threads about McLean/Kent Gardens Elementary/foreign language immersion programs?

It's difficult to believe that someone feels compelled to give ranking to the elementary schools in McLean. These test scores are 3-8 years old. A whole new set of students are there now. Is there a serious problem with the administration? Are students being taught in a way that helps them be successful and learn/improve for where they are at right now?

How strange that my views are slammed as 'bizarre' by the NoVA fans on city-data.

The transfer our rates are this year.

The current data reflects the old data. KGES still poor.
