HI! We think we may have found a house close to the corner of Rt123 and Fairfax station road. Can anyone guesstimate how long of a commute it would be just to the Vienna Metro? It seems to be a straight shot (more or less) up 123, but I've heard that road can be bad. The VRE is VERY close, but just looking for additional alternatives as well. He'd probably be leaving the house by 7 AM at the latest.
Thanks so much!!

He'll be working at Fed. Triangle area DC (Near FBI HQ). He'd much rather take public transportation than drive

There's a VRE station at L'Enfant Plaza metro station, then he take the orange line to Vienna 3 stops. Free parking at the VRE station too

Were you tired when you posted this? I think you meant Yellow line or green line and just a couple of stops to Federal Triangle area. (actually, I think it is one stop, but whatever).

I'd say that both are right, depending on destination. The Federal Triangle station (three stops from L'Enfant on the Orange or Blue) is on 12th Street just south of PA Ave. The Archives station (one stop from L'Enfant Plaza on the Yellow or Green) is at 7th and PA Ave. Which to take would likely depend on where you wanted to end up.

As for Fairfax Station to the Vienna Metro, it's about 10 miles, but 123 can indeed be pretty rough northbound in the morning. You could take Guinea Road north to 236, then a quick right-left turn onto Prosperity Ave, following that straight up to the Dunn Loring Metro. Might not save a whole lot of time really, but it's a prettier drive. Train time from Vienna to Federal Triangle is 30 minutes...three minutes less from Dunn Loring...

Oh, I see. I totally misunderstood your post. Wait a minute. I misunderstood because you wrote Vienna in there, and I read it as if you meant it was 3 stops to Vienna. You really meant for them to get on the Vienna bound train for 3 stops right?

Expect half an hour (45mins with bad traffic; 20mins if no one is on the road). Also consider cutting past GMU on University Dr. to Old Lee Hwy, around Fairfax Circle on Rt. 29 (Lee Hwy) to the Nutly St. metro entrance.

The Old Lee Highway route is another option worth trying. I use it often in getting from Vienna or Dunn Loring to the Fairfax/Fair Oaks area in the evening, and it works out quite well...
