There isn't really a metro in Anne Arundel either. It would present the same issues as Howard County.

No, but OP can drive to the other end of the Blue/Orange line (or take a bus perhaps). That is easier than starting out in Columbia, which probably funnels its commuters to the eastern branch of the Red Line and to Baltimore.

Balwmer I like it..haha.

Howard County has nice schools and is a little closer than AA county. Mo County is a possibility too I guess.

I too recommend looking in Woodbridge. We live in the 22192 zip code and it is really nice. We felt like we got a good bang for our buck. It's safe, the local shopping is diverse and convenient, the schools are solid, and taxes are cheaper than on Fairfax or Arlington County. Depending on work hours the commute isn't too bad.

If you work 6-2, or even earlier? how realistic is this for most people? I work with people who do this 6-2 thing, and they are basically worthless because they don't work similar hours to those of us that live in civilization...

I worked at Belvoir for years, and there, the norm was 6-2 because everyone lived in a farm south of Fredericksburg it seemed.. , but if you work anywhere where that isn't the norm, you will be hated by your coworkers.
