Hi! I am new to NoVA and I am a professional childrens photographer. I am looking for parks where I can do fall photo shoots that have a lot of trees and beautiful fall colors. Where can I go? Is Burke Lake nice in the fall? I've been there before with my own kids just to play. I am in Chantilly, so anywhere with in a 30 minute drive would be nice. I would prefer not to go into DC.

Thank you!!

You won't have a problem finding a space. It's all pretty much beautiful in the Fall. Just take Rt 50 West and you'll find many scenic places. the Aldie Mill would be nice, Upperville has some lovely areas for pictures. Many B&Bs and wineries are also very scenic.

Chrysalis winery just off Rt 50 does have great views.

Of course, Cox Farms is a fall favorite for kid pics

I would also check out the Battlefield and Bull Run Park

All these are very close to Chantilly

Prince William Forest Park. Maybe 45 minutes though but a beautiful place.

If you are looking for excellent fall foliage to shoot, try Harper's Ferry or Dolly Sods in WV, or Shenandoah in VA. Many local camera clubs will head out to those locations in October. And the further south you head down the Blue Ridge Parkway, there is a ton to shoot. Several old grist mills to shoot as you get further south in VA.

Shenandoah NP gets very crowded during peak foliage, so get there before sunrise.

thanks! I will look into all of those. I have been to cox farms but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to take professional photo's of kids there and set up my own little space. Most of my customers are with in 20-40 minutes of where I am, so something more local would be better. What about Eleanor C. Lawrence park? I did a shoot there with my son in the winter right after we moved here and it was really nice. I bet the leaves would be beautiful in October!

Also, when is the best time for the brightest fall colors? Is it in October or November? I just moved here from southern CA in January, so this will be my first fall here.

Thank you!!

Late October and early November are best here. I see you have already endured our January Winters!
I agree the Shenandoah is nice and Plan to go shooting there myself soon.

yeah, I actually LOVED the winter! I loved the snow that we had. I was also here visiting family the year before when you guys had the big blizzard. I really can't wait for it to cool down here. Sooo tired of this awful hot weather. I know I will be doing my own family shoot out in the Shenandoah valley, but I don't think my customers would want to drive out that far. But, possibly. We will see! Thank you!

How about Algonkian in Loudoun County? That's a beautiful park, although I've never been there in the fall.
