Greetings all. A grad school friend is doing a research paper on the disparities between starting salaries of recent college grads in this area as opposed to other cities and needs your help. (It's for some type of complex economic/data growth thing he's working on) If you don't mind can you please fill out this quick survey of what you made starting out here or what a friend/neighbor/etc. has stated he/she made? Thanks a lot for your time and entertaining this survey.

This data is for my friend's daughter and was for early 2009:
Starting Salary: $45,000 (but in a suburb of DC--makes a difference)
Educational Level: Bachelor's
Position: Junior Technical Editor
College Major: English

Why not look at a website that charts this kind of thing? You should be able to look at entry level positions at various companies.

I could tell you the differences my company gives to various cities if that would be of interest. Entry level salaries are a simple formula: College/GPA/Major. Then, there is a COL adjustment for certain cities. If I were to have taken a position with my company in LA instead of DC, I would have made a few thousand more. In Chicago, a few thousand less.

Did you start out as a GS-11? Because if I recall correctly that's where $60k starts at.
