Lots of tech and business history here. If you skim the info below, you will see that today's online/Internet www. required a lot of innovation, development, and investment to get to where it is.

Yes, had Sears persevered and done it well, maybe they could have been like Amazon. They would have had to drag along their (even then) huge brick and mortar investments, employees, expenses, and mind set. Not easy either.

Actually besides Amazon, you see Walmart and many others (including Sears) trying to do this today...with the now mature technology and millions of eager customers with computers and cell phones.

As far as employees; Sears, I felt, had too many employees. Especially as their business turned into the red. Kmart never had enough employees and I could never figure out, when the two merged, why they did not move some Sears employees to Kmart?

I followed that link a little. Yes it looked like they were in the right place; but who dropped the ball? My feeling, like I said before, is I thought they got over confident. They felt they were too big to fail or they actually engineered their demise.

Well according to the Pocono Record the Sears at the Stroud Mall will be closed:

Stroud Mall Sears to close - News - poconorecord.com - Stroudsburg, PA

it wasn't on the corporate list the last time Sears put it out.....

Maybe I'm wrong; but I think it is closed now? I tired their local link and it said "closed". In the WBRE article some people said they were glad it would stay open for the holidays; but I think they might have been wrong. Has anybody been in that area lately?

PS Here is their link: https://www.sears.com/stores/store-c...4/0002074.html

They're in the process of closing, probably not getting any new merchandise in. The last thing corporate wants is people trying to shop there and find a poor selection, so they list it as closed.

Probably no firm date yet, but whenever they get rid of enough stuff they'll just close the doors for good.

P.S. If you enter 18301 into the Zip Code locator they say the Auto Center at the Stroud Mall is officially still open, so I guess they are operated separately from the main store?

Thanks! As far as not wanting people to shop I would not think so. Of course they can still move the inventory to the other stores that are still have open or discount it online; but their clock is ticking and counting down to the day where there will be no Sears anyplace. Of course maybe that is the game plan; to close some stores and supply the ones open with the merchandise from the ones closing? I would presume that it is harder and harder for them to get supplies from creditors that are afraid of being left with nothing.

3 new distribution centers will be built. It seems that one building is already contracted to be filled (business yet to be identified).

It seems like the Lehigh Valley and NEPA are the distribution hubs of the northeast US.

Here is another link that gives the names of the companies and also says they will be hiring about 2,000 workers: Adidas & Patagonia Bringing Thousands of Jobs to Hanover Township in Northeastern Pennsylvania | Penn's Northeast News. Of course many of those projections seem to be very optimistic. But just the construction will give many workers jobs during the construction. Adidas and Patagonia are the big employers coming in.

The Army Depot is looking for 200 new employees by December: https://wnep.com/2018/11/15/multi-mi...na-army-depot/. That pays pretty good; they do have a link to check the jobs out.

I had not heard about the new medical jobs out by Blakeslee. I am still waiting on the new Lehigh Valley Hospital in Tannersville. But all of this is great as long as we don't import cheap labor. It should drive up the wages of all in our area as more and more employers compete for fewer employees! Thanks for the information!
