Just when it is about to get really cold I thought I would post some pictures to make us feel warm.

It is west of Dallas. If I can find a postable map I'll do so. I would warn ahead that it is a long walk to get to the falls and you can't visit in the winter because of falling danger with the snow and ice. At some point you can go ice climbing but you have to be readily equipped with ice picks, ropes. special shoes and so on. It is a nice trip in the summer but you should bring a backpack with a snack and water. It literally is about 1 mile just to start on the trail and then lots of precarious climbs down and up.

Oh, it's making me wish I was there! I want to rent a cabin there but they seem hard to come by. They post availability 11 months in advance and I guess they go very quickly. The cabins there have 3 bedrooms and full kitchen and bath and living room.
Lake Jean at Ricketts Glenn is absolutely beautiful.

A cabin would be fun! as long as I have a place to shower LOL. I guess I'm not a hardcore camper but if I had at least had one of those cruddy outdoor shower things I could manage for a few days.

I think you would have better than an outdoor shower. They did look nice. The rates are about $75.00 a night, and the cabins sleep 8, not a bad deal at all. The lake is pristine and within walking distance of the cabins. Nice beach, clear water, fishing, boat rentals. A real nice way to spend a week or a weekend. Cabins are only rented by the week during the summer months.
