It was just announced by the govenors office - Google has chosen Lenoir for it's new site.
From the Charlotte Observer website:
Gov. Mike Easley this morning announced that the world's largest search engine company plans to invest as much as $600 million in the Caldwell County community to build a computer data center.
How is the economy in that area now? The article says the average salaray now is < $30K.
There has been a struggling economy the last couple of years as more furniture makers have pulled out. But it is still a great area, not too downtrodden or a lost cause at all. It sounds like Google used the heavy hand when negotiating! Article http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/business/16603573.htm (broken link)
While its great Caldwell county is getting these hight tech jobs, I feel like to state gave too much away.
