Hi,

My wife, 2 sons, and I are moving to Fort Bragg and are looking at the Southern Pines/Pinehurst area. How long is the commute to Division HQ for the 82nd (I'm going to be a JAG guy up there)? What is the best route?

Also, any help you can give on neighborhoods or good areas to live would be great!

Thanks,
DB

DB,

I just made the same move a year ago and I think you and your family will be happy here in Moore County. It is a competely different lifestyle compared to Fayetteville. I was stationed at Ft. Bragg 10 years ago and lived in Fayetteville then, and it has only gotten worse since then. When I found out I was coming back I knew to look in the Southern Pines/Pinehurst area. I bought a place last year in Weymouth Pines off of Ft. Bragg Rd. in SP. The commute is not bad, there is no traffic or lights and the Longstreet gate is never backed-up like the others. It is no more than 25 miles from my house to 82nd HQs and takes me 35-40 minutes driving the speed limit (50 mph), most people drive faster then me. I only live about 2 miles from the edge of post so East SP is the place to look if you want the shortest commute. Some of the subdivisions are Weymouth Pines, Highland Trails, and Sandhurst. The route everyone takes is on the northside of post - Morgantown Rd. to Manchester Rd. to Lamont Rd. to Longstreet Rd. to Gruber Rd. If you have anymore questions or want to talk, email me on AKO (jon.borman). I will do my best to help.

Good Luck,

Jon

What do you all think of Woodlake? Is the commute faster from here? Also, what about Whispering Pines -- is the commute much longer?

Thank You,
MT
