That Winston Salem installation over 40 strongly resembles the one at LAX airport which the world immediately recognizes.
TVS design's tower for initially Wachovia irks me a little in how massive it looks compared to the other more-slender ones around it.
The base to height ratio isn't perfect, and because it's mostly poured concrete, they had leeway to be much more slender than what they decided on.
Manhattan's billionaire's row has towers that literally are the same ratio as standing a No. 2 pencil on it's eraser head.
I like Charlotte's iconic bridge, but do those ribbons provide any support to the bridge?
Because if they merely sculptures that aren't joined with the bridge and serve no practical purpose, then they open themselves up to decades of criticism and speculation of why they are there.
Like Atlanta's wasting $30 million on the new bridge to MB stadium that has circular ramps on each end that effectively double how far you have to walk compared to the crosswalk on the ground.
Can someone explain if these ribbon structures have any symbolic ties to Charlotte?
They love curvy motifs in Charlotte, as in the light rail station canopies and the bus system's cursive-looking logo letters.

Lots of Chatter that CLT will be awarded the 30th MLS team and an announcement is imminent.
We'll see though.
Will be interesting to see because Raleigh is really trying to get a team with its stadium plan near the inner beltway. There are good arguments for both cities being able to support Major League Soccer though but Charlotte could be in a slightly better position.

It's been known for some time now Raleigh won't be getting an MLS team. The new downtown soccer stadium will be for USL and NWSL.
December 3, 1768 - Charlotte is chartered, which means the new town will have a courthouse and a prison. The law establishing a town for holding court in Mecklenburg County was first passed at a session of the colonial Assembly. It was then sent on to the governor, who made it effective on December 3 of that year. Here is the full text of the law from the State Records of North Carolina:
