20 years of gross abuse, probably many more... and a slap on the wrist. No one has ever denied the intelligence of those Chapel Hill lawyers, just win baby!
The majority of the "ABC" folks (read: NC State fans) who give off the "out for blood" vibe ..wait for it......actually want UNC to "get off scott free"
If UNC were to get a post season ban, have to vacate past wins, get the death penalty, or any combination of those in the next season.....in a few years; UNC would still have a far better athletic record than State....and their excuse of "b b b b b but...they cheated and get away with it!!!! That's the only reason they're better!" would be null.
That's pretty much their whole MO. What else would they have to cling to? Even after the harshest punishment possible....in the long run UNC's athletic record and overall academic prestige would still outshine theirs. Duke and UNC will still be THE rivalry in college sports and State still won't be invited to the party that they feel left out of now.
No....ABC fans discretely (and often not so discretely) really want UNC to "get away with it"....they want to have that line to pull for all eternity. They lose that; they lose all of their talking points and really their whole dialogue as a fanbase.
....Exhibit A:
