How should I go about talking to my roommate about his horrible breath?
My theory is that the root of the problem is that he only brushes his teeth once a day.
Usually not flossing and getting the stuff in between that stays there until you do floss and then turns to plaque is the reason for dead body smelling breath
The passive aggressive approach that seems popular on this forum is the whole reason our society sucks. Tell him, "No offense, but your breath smells."
If he seems offended, say, "I'm sorry but I thought you should know."
Unless he is a weird, antisocial dolt, he will brush more often, eat breath mints, google simple chronic halitosis, or something." Normal people don't just not care about having bad breath, but it is one of those things people often don't notice about themselves. And many people are too polite to say anything.
But he might eventually get the point (not sure if it's a bad thing though).. I had bad breath back in high school and now I understand why I received breath mints from the other kids all the time..
"Hey roommate, your breath really stinks. Perhaps you are unaware but I want to clue you in. Your breath is offensive."
Why make it such a big dance around deal? If they get offended, well then, time for a new roommate, one not so thin skinned.
