I am originally from the Adirondacks. I moved out west after college and I am now back in NY. My husband and I are considering moving to the Adirondacks (Old Forge area). I never lived there as an adult and I can't quite imagine what it would be like. If you live or have lived in the Adirondacks can you please tell me what you liked and didn't like about it? I seem to have forgotten why I left? Also is the real estate market as big of a mess there as it is in the rest of the country?

I have fond memories of Old Forge. As a kid our family used to vacation there. Haven't been there in years, but I did read an article last year that many of the locals were being taxed out of their homes because of the influx of downstaters buying second homes in the area.
