I see that former 2 term Broome County Executive, Tim Grippen, has died. Never met him in person. And never had the chance to vote for him as I lived in the county, next door. His 2nd term..ending in 96', saw him running a county going through a tough economic period. Numerous large employers, esp IBM, significantly downsized their local operations. He did his best, and that's all that can be asked of a man. I always thought it rude, insulting, and frankly, pathetic...that offhand comments were sometimes made by folks about his appearance. These classless AHOLES obviously had no appreciation for a former Vietnam Veteran who, not only suffered severe facial injuries during his service as an infantryman, but, again, stepped up to the plate to serve his community in public office.

People actually would make comments about him and not realize that there was some obvious injury that played a part in his appearance? I looked up some information about the man and his service and people really have some issues, if they couldn't understand that he had a serious injury. https://wnbf.com/former-broome-execu...oda-have-died/

Kraham elected as next Binghamton mayor: https://wbng.com/2021/11/02/kraham-l...nent-concedes/

He is replacing Rich David, another Republican. So much for the NY State city/Democratic mayor stereotype.

..It was common knowledge about the "why" of his facial injuries(Vietnam). It wasen't a real public thing..but if ya' got around Broome County back then..inevitably someone(always a ignorant ahole) would no doubt throw a comment about his looks. I gave him a lot of credit for ignoring any comments or stares, and serving the community.

Default Owego..

While The news about Owego is appreciated...we are 14 miles down the valley from Binghamton.....and like to think of ourselves as not part of the Binghamton "area". As for the election of a Republican..as with Tioga County, there is a strong Republican presence in both Broome and Tioga Counties.

^I wonder about that, as while Tioga County is a part of the Binghamton metro area due to commuting patterns determined by the US Census(25%), I can see how people in Tioga County view it as being separate.
