No doubt hard work, good connections and a sexual scandal were the driving factors that propelled the new Governor David Patterson to head New York State. What many did not know was that a famous racehorse helped advance the Patterson family forward in their road to upper class ruler/politicians. Mr. Patterson's great grandfather was the farrier that shooed Upset the famous long shot that overhauled the immortal Man O' War. The owner of Upset CV Whitney was so happy when Upset beat Man O' War that he staked everyone from the barn. (http://www.saratogatodayonline.com/content/view/825/2/ - broken link) Governor Patterson's great grand father received a house in Fort Green Brooklyn as a stake after Upset's famous win. This win by Upset coined the term upset. The home provided by Upset's owner is the home where Governor Paterson returned after his birth.
