Good for you. Not as trendy or hip, but Catskill is just fine.

No - not as hip lol But trying hard ... maybe I can help it along No ... maybe not. I tried so hard for Saugerties but being within a walk to the village was just too expensive. Thought we had a place in Rosendale which fell through but in retrospect that was probably the place for me four years ago ... before my three year old stunted my social life. Tried so hard for one in Woodstock but didn't anticipate so much resistance to small children - couldn't even get a call back from landlord's in Stone Ridge. But for now, hopefully Catskill will work. At least there's shops, libraries and cares I can walk with the kiddos to which is a sanity saver!

Just think of it as a start, you can always reevaluate and move as the lease approaches it's end. By that time you will have a better idea what works best and the different communities that are in the area.

Absolutely! Tho yet another move is a hideous concept lol But it's not a forever apartment - a whole year without moving will be good - this is number just this year!

We've been in NY a month or so - we beat a hurried retreat from a tiny town called Bland in SW VA - between Wytheville and Bluefield which straddles the VA/WV border. Beautiful country but a very bad experience in Bland, mainly due to my husband's job. He was a Corrections Officer.

We also lived South Central VA - Sandy Level, which is between Rocky Mount and Gretna, and also in Chatham/Danville area where we had a farm.

Originally tho my husband is from Indianapolis and I'm English - lived three years in Indiana, then almost four in Virginia and now in NY. Hoping not to hop States again now husband isn't in Corrections!

Now that's more than you ever wanted to know about ne isn't it lol?

Lol - yes we did. The first farm was a shock to the system and a huge learning curve ... enough to disabuse my husband of the idea all those beautiful old houses that are left to rot in favor of the double-wide sitting alongside are salvagable. That red clay's a killer. We got the pro's and con's of country and small town and spent a lot of timein Richmond, Chesapeake and VA Beach too so I think we covered most of it. Where are you from?
