Hello,

I found this forum while starting to inform myself about a possible move to NY. My company wants to send me there and I will be working at Kennedy Airport. Since we are German, we should consider sending our Kids to the German School, which is located in White Plains.

Any suggestion on where to find a nice and affordabel place to live and that also works out with the daily way to school and the airport.

I found different opinions about living in westchester county, which would be the optimum in terms of distance to both places, school and airport. Other places liek Queens seem to be cheaper but i don't have a clue about the distances and the traffic from there to White plains.

We are all German and Spanisch speaking since my wife is from Soutamerica, so we are not especially looking for a German Expat community but some diversity.

Thanks a million in advance for any good advice!

I suggest you post your question on the NYC forum (for replies about Queens) and on the Westchester County forum (for replies about White Plains).

If you will be working out of Kennedy Airport, you might want to consider Kew Gardens, Forest Hills or Rego Park but there is no German language school in these areas as far as I know. If you definitely want your children to go to a German speaking school then I think you need to live in Westchester County and then commute by car daily to your work at JFK airport.

Waldorf School in Garden City (Long Island) offers German language. It's nearer Kennedy airport than White Plains.

I looked up the German School; I found it very interesting. I expect that this is not just a language issue, it is the fact it is based on the German teaching curriculum that appeals to you; also, that your children will suffer a bit less from culture shock.

You will be commuting quite a distance from White Plains to Kennedy [ Driving Distance from JFK to White Plains, NY ] I am referring not to mileage, but to time for the commute. It is very congested on the roads if you are driving. If you are driving, the route on that link is probably one to consider. You really need someone from the White Plains area to help you with where to live.
