OUCH! But I can see what you're saying.
New York City is a totally different beast in almost every way than where you are in Texas right now. It would be great for your kids to see but I don't think you should pick up and move right now. Financially, it'll be crazy expensive and a struggle UNLESS you are your boyfriend have the money to do so.
Other than that, I really don't think it's a wise move. Maybe you guys can try out Dallas, Austin, Houston where it's more diverse and gives you a big city feel but still have that suburban "life style" I guess. If not, try suburbs in Miami. Just because your boyfriend came along and misses his family, doesn't mean you both have to just move out to NYC. That' another subject.
What is he doing in Texas in the first place?
