Thinking of buying and wondering what areas are high crime rate? Any info I can get on anything pertaining to Kingston, I would appreciate. Thanks

Yes, stay away from Kingston. Drugs, crime, dirty, nothing special there. There is not a single part of the city I would recommend.

Go south towards Rosendale and New Paltz or Wallkill. Or go north to Saugerties.

Newburgh area on the Hudson might be better then Kingston- also try Hyde Park. The area further south Sleepy Hollow is interesting, also look into Carmel.
Real estate will be more costly has you go south toward NYC- also try western Connecticut (New Milford, Danbury, Bethel, Salisbury, Winsted) you will be very pleased by the pleasant lifestyle.

I would recommend steering clear of Newburgh as well. Though some areas are seeing a bit of improvement, the overall city is quite dirty and congested and some parts are quite dangerous. Lots of drugs, stabbings, breakins, muggings, rapes. I won't even drive down there anymore.

If you wish to look south of Kingston to Orange County, Montgomery, Walden, Maybrook, Goshen, Pine Bush and Campbell Hall are quite nice. A little more $$, but they are good towns that offer employment and good schools.

I was going to say keep away from Newburgh, too.

Hi, I was born and raised in Kingston and it is great little town. Yes, there is crime and drugs there, but no more then you find everywhere else. I would stay away from the Mid-town section and the Broadway area. Go for the outskirts, Bloomington is beautiful and Saugerties is also a nice place. Good luck and hope you like it! Just remember, there are good and bad areas everywhere.

my aunt & uncle have lived in Kingston(actually Hurley since they broke up the city lines) & they both own successful businesses for 25 years, raised their kids there. Last year they sold their home, both are trying to sell their businesses(without much luck), the adult kids have both moved out of state & my aunt & uncle bought a house & in Florida & are living in their summer home about an hour north of Kingston for now.
They say things have gone downhill & they want out. Both kids said they knew they needed to leave if they wanted a good life.
This is just my families experience of course, and truthfully they were VERY happy there all those years until about 4-5 years ago.
I second Orange county.

Hi;
Avoid Kingston, for all the reasons listed by others, but in the surrounding areas like Stone ridge, Rhinebeck, Hyde Park, or North on RT. 28 Like ashokan for the scenery or home buying if you work in the Kingston Area. Since IBM Corp moved out mainly in the early 90's the class of people has changed from White collar to whatever collar. Rental housing is insane for the wages for the average worker, and the home prices are bloated...County and for that matter state wide in NY. Ive lived here for 48 years.

STAY AWAY FROM KINGSTON UNLESS YOU CCW OR TRAVEL WITH AN ARMED GUARD.
IF YOU HAVE KIDS THEY WILL BE IN GANGS OR BEATEN EVERY DAY IN SCHOOL IF THEY ARE ANGLO.
ITS A CESSPOOL.
The Kingston police and Ulster County DA refuse to apply hate crime equally for fear of riots and property damage. The Mayor (Sottile) is a jackass..... Jeez I dont know where to stop.

(I was a camera operator with a NYC TV news channel)
Last year a kid named Robbie Kendrick was beaten so bad his eyeball fell out, The police did nothing (He is now blind and and deaf in one ear and still undergoes facial re-construction)
Skinheads and KKK were called in to restore order.
It was only then the DA charged the 300 pound animal with a hate crime then dropped the charges for a plea with weekends in jail and probation.

Photos of it here.

Hi,
Just my two cents, but I would recommend South Central LA before Kingston. My wife and I visited the area last November and found the town to be quite a dump.
