I cannot give an opinion on finding a mate here, others will have more expertise on that subject. However, if you have a curious intellect and can adapt to people easily, you will love New York City. It is perhaps the most single friendly city in the US and will keep you as challenged and active as you want to be. No one blinks an eye at being single here, and that is a refreshing contrast to most places I've visited in the US.
You should always follow your dreams... but also make sure to use a good strong dose of good ol' fashioned preparation. There are tons of gorgeous, insanely ridiculously gorgeous women here of all ages. Hell, I am only 29 and find myself intimidated on a daily basis by it. Not that I am not attractive, it's just that the competition here is way more intense than it was back home. Especially in Manhattan, women are slimmer and much more sophisticated and fashionable than in other parts of the country. In order to snag a decent man you really do need to be slim and polished. Just take good care of yourself, prepare, and you'll do fine!
I moved here at the ripe old age of 45 and love it. I am currently living in Brooklyn but think I am going to move to Manhattan soon. Although Brooklyn is VERY NICE, there are far too many families and "young" people in Brooklyn for me.
I think that after the age of maybe 28, everyone has to start working harder to develop a social life, but of course NYC is great for adult socializing and adult pastimes. And by "adult," I don't mean porn, but great restaurants, concerts, films, whatever.
How can you pass it up? If you don't do it, you'll brood about it for the rest of your life.
I am not sure what your life situation is but I think there are a lot middle aged single men here too .
I don't think NYC has an age limit. Althought sometimes I wish things had an age minimum because I cannot stand children.
So you want NYC to be like Liberty city in GTA, no children, lol
