We always loved New York and Los Angeles, but we have no idea wich city we shall choose.
I thought I could ask you guys here in this forum about your advices and about which city we should choose.
We have $3000 income a month right now, but when we can find jobs beside this we have of course more. But we still looking for a nice affordable safe place in either LA or NY.
We like those cities because we are from Europe and those cities are more European.

That's probably a large cup of coffee from a coffeeshop they're talking about, not a pound. A pound of coffee in the burbs of NYC here is around $9.

You could find a small place in the suburbs about an hour out, but you won't be able to get 3BR in a nice area on your budget... for example, I am about an hour out on Long Island now, you can rent a small decent (not updated) 1BR for about 1,000 monthly. Is that $3k before or after taxes? Do you have children? a Car?

No Kids, one car so far. 1BR for about 1,000 monthly? That is really expensive, but I think the same price for an 1 BR Apartment in Los Angeles.

For 3K a month, you MIGHT get a 1br apartment.... I think you better look into areas in Queens or Brooklyn.

I think you better do a bit more research, visit Manhattan for a couple of weeks, and see what you're getting into. There's no way you're going to make it in Manhattan on 3K/mo unless you, your wife want to squeeze into a studio that's about the size of a large bedroom for about 1700-2K/mo.

Best thing for you to do is get jobs lined up so that you'll know what your income is. Once you know that, people can help you with different neighborhoods/areas that are within your price range.
