After we read about Los Angeles last week with all the gangs and economy, that Gov Arni is rasing all prices we decited to try New York. New York is more international.
Coffee in LA $5.04
in NY $5.43
in Idaho $5.99 in any store.
What we want is a nice, safe, affordable place either in NY or LA for living. We like both cities.
If coffee is the only thing you'll be buying, then you're fine. However, according to the C.O.L. calculator, you'll need to earn upwards of $70,000 to maintain the same lifestyle you currently have in Boise:
Boise -- New York City (Manhattan) -- Difference
Home Price -- $254,197.00 -- $1,168,000.00 -- $913,803.00
Payment + Interest -- $1,019.12 -- $4,881.00 -- $3,861.88
Apt. Rent -- $698.27 -- $3,500.00 -- $2,801.73
Total Energy -- $167.15 -- $323.91 --$156.76
To be blunt, "safe" and "affordable" don't go together in either Los Angeles OR New York City.

That's a pretty tall order!
You'll have to be more specific about your needs, though. There are very "nice" areas in NY that are, for some, very inconvenient for the kind of urban lifestyle that they would like to lead in New York.
What's drawing you to NY?
