We want to buy a place in Eastern Queens. I'd love to buy in Bayside/Douglaston, but it's way out of our reach for now. We have a 6 month old, so school distrcits won't be a concern for a few more years. I was thinking of Jamaica---it is generally safe? Any other ideas?

Jamaica is a huge neighborhood.. it depends on what part, but it's not the nicest neighborhood in most parts. It's kind of gritty.

Don't move to Jamaica unless it's the Estates or Briarwood [which is usually considered Jamaica]. Most of Jamaica is ghetto.

not sure if you want to rent, but there's a nice rental community in fresh meadows in the vicinity of 73rd avenue and 188th street and that also is in District 26.

Jamaica has a lot of different sections... some are black, some aren't.
