i currently live in the stuy town area, but my mom is in a court case trying to defend our family from being evicted for having a house out of state. it's likely we won't be able to stay so i'm trying to find a good neighborhood in manhattan, bronx or the border of queens preferably on the D or 4 line. (i am going to the Bronx High School of Science next year which is in bedford park - 205th street so i would be glad if the new house is easily accessible or near my school) my mom is extremely afraid of harlem or any place with a lot of crime in general so that is a big problem. suggestions on where to live? thanks in advance
Going from Stuy Town to Norwood would probably be a huge transition.
I second the reccomendation of Riverdale. I don't know how it would work out with public transportation, but geographically its pretty close to Bronx Science.

The Bedford Park area between the Concourse and Webster, from Bedford Pk Blvd to Mosholu Pkwy(you could walk no problem) should be relatively safe, even safer might be Kingsbridge area between Irwin Ave and Broadway 231st-240th(you could take the 10 bus)
Well if you're going there for the sake of affordibility, convenience, and safety along the 4/D line in the Bronx, there are certain parts of Norwood and Bedford Park that are decent enough compared to anywhere else in the Bronx along this line.

Even within Norwood and Bedford Park there is crime or areas that seem seedy. The area on Grand Concourse from Bedford Park Boulevard to the Fine Fare around 203rd st and anywhere near St Philip Neri is one of the best areas but still place still sucks and is boring and nearby all the even lamer dangerous areas. It feels too much like a buble and is a mxied message for portraying this entire area of the Bronx.
I suspect OP and the mother probably found an apartment already since the original post is nine months old. But I suppose the additional info could help someone else.
