My food budget does not seem to be working. I tried to allocate $300 per month and it is not working. I am going to increase it to $400.00. I am hoping that will work. I have decided to take the extra step to pay cash for food. This will help me to be more mindful of what I am spending on food. I am single.

I would like to know how much people who reside in NYC are paying for food. I am particularly interested in singles. Thanks.

I lives with my partner. She and I will spend about $400.00 a month on groceries and then I'll probably spend another $100 on lunch and breakfast I buy at work. I eat a lot and I like to buy more fresh fruits and vegetables compared to a lot of other people. It also depends on which grocery store I shop at, if I shop at a premium grocery store like Fairway, Whole Foods, or Trader Joe's I'll spend waay more so I very rarely do that any more. Also will spend probably $100 at least on going on to dinner which we do once or twice a month.

The biggest thing that reduces my food cost is packing lunch and breakfast. If you are able to do this consistently you can shave off at least $100-200 in food expense per month I've learned

Where are you shopping for groceries right now?

Wow, 300-400 for one person? We need more details. Where do you shop? Do you cook? Does that include eating out?

Yeah that is a lot. I feed a family of 4 on 600-650 a month. Anything extra I spend over that is usually junk food. That include toiletries too by the way.

It looks like you are spending $600 per month for a family of two. I should be spending around $300 but it is not working out. I eat out for breakfast and lunch during the week and I cook on the weekend. I got in to trouble this month because I bought groceries and ate out on the weekends.

My food cost would certainly decrease if I brought my breakfast and lunch to work. Lunch is not going to happen. I am working towards bringing oatmeal for breakfast. If I do that, I will reduce my food expense by $80 per month.

My food budget includes all of my food expenses. I eat out for breakfast and lunch during the week. I shop at the MET. The MET is a little expensive but it is convenient.

We do take-out maybe once every other month, dinners maybe once or twice a year. I mostly bring lunch and breakfast to work but once in a blue I do order something at work.
