The point is, 1989 was 27 years ago

Sanitation workers mostly retire at 20 years of service, not many if any, people are still working if they started in 1989. This is why your question makes no sense.

To make it simpler, if a sanitation worker started in 1989, they most likely retired in 2009.

Get it now?

* Also going by the layoff in 1991 I believe. This also assuming guys didn't buy their time back.

There was a big layoff and guys don't run out the door at exactly 20 years. Most? Sure, but not all.

Most of the time of guys stay past 20 they're looking to do 25 or 30. There's practically so few guys left that were hired in 89 that if those left retired it wouldn't even mean a thing. But at least now I understand why you picked that year, when I first read it I was like why 89 of any year possible.

I should've included more information with my original question but that was the answer I was looking for. Thank you, AWOL.

Eyewitness News (Channel 7) just did "live" reporting from Maspeth, and the local peeps aren't happy! *LOL*

Everyone on the camera moaning that their street hasn't seen a plow and "I've got kids... God forbid something happens and I need to get out...." Then you have the usual "I bet all the streets in Manhattan are nice and clean..."

Plus the fact that once everything gets plowed everyone shovels it back in the street! Smh. Then they get mad when you plow it back.. excuse me technically you are not suppose to throw it in the street!

Had to inform a homeowner that if I can drive a plow for 12 hours and then come home and dig out my property and cars and NOT put the snow back on the street SO CAN YOU! Some of these blocks are ridiculous cause I can't get down.
