I'm considering working for a company in Englewood Cliffs NJ if offered minimum $55-60K/year for entry level business/supply chain job upon graduating from college.. and would be interested in living in NYC if I take up the job.
I'd like to get an idea of what neighborhoods you guys would recommend living in if I had the following requirements..
Would prefer living alone, max $2000 rent, prefer closer to $1500 -- min. 300 sq. ft.
Convenient for commuting to George Washington Bridge (corporate offices on NJ side of bridge) w/o car
Convenient to basic necessities (10ish min. walking distance to groceries/drug stores/subway/etc.)
Convenient access to the following areas - Chinatown, East Village, Williamsburg, Central Park
Would still like to save money, but don't want to have to be too tight w/ money
prefer Manhattan or Brooklyn, though open to Bronx/Queens if there are areas that meet above criteria
Not sure how realistic my requirements are given the income set, but let me know your suggestions
I find myself in a similar situation, only that I now live in NYC. I was wondering what is the best commute to get to Sylvan Ave.?
You can take a bus from the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal that goes to Englewood Cliffs. I think that if you take a bus from the Port Authority, you have to transfer to get to the bus to Englewood Cliffs.
For the rent you're talking about, you probably could find a studio up around Morningside Heights, near Columbia, and take the subway, or bus, maybe 20 mins up to the GWB Bus Station. The bus ride's about 15 mins to Englewood Cliffs ... I grew up in Englewood, next door. In fact, it would be a fairly easy and beautiful bike commute over the bridge when the weather's decent.
But Brooklyn or Queens would kill you. Bronx, well, maybe near the 1 line.
Supply chain in Englewood cliffs is raking in 50-60K for entry level?
dayum, are you working for Unilever, LG, or that big Ferrari HQ then?
Try Washington Heights because you are close to the GWB which has buses to 9W or anywhere in Englewood/cliffs, plus the rooms are inexpensive but they are huge, and the amenities are reasonably priced
Or even inwood, and morningside heights for the same reason
washington heights should be good. if you live around riverside drive to fort washington and 181st to 190th, then you could practically walk to the bus in the GWB bus terminal. if you need to go downtown to meet up with friends, there's the A train. if i were in your place, i'd probably pick washington heights.
